Have your own hotspot, how could one refuse?

The latest addition to Caxton, a 3MiFi dongle as recommended by fellow, boater/blogger Greygal.  Her fulsome praise of this device got us in the 3 shop today and we came away with the  beast.
We are already customers of 3 so this is basically an upgrade and allows us to connect up to five devices to it.  For the most part it will be our two laptops  but the download capability for streaming BBC I-Player programmes will also come in useful.

We've had one of these for the past month or so, and it's great for when we both want to be online. Not quite as fast as the plug-in dongle, though, so if there's only one laptop on the go, I think I'd revert to the dongle. We've got a wrap-around thing that connects to an ariel on the roof, which seems to increase the signal strength a bit.

I am connected to the MiFI via a belkin booster and the speed is great - we have Zoom as well so there should be no problems getting a signal in future - as I type I can feel a premonition that I may well be eating my words....

I have had one of these since they were released by 3, about 12 months now. It came as an upgrade to their dongle, and I have found it to be the best kit for use on a narrowboat. I did a post all about it on my own blog entitled how I solved my mobile internet problem. Peter.

Hi Peter
We have a Zoom router which we are going to locate in the engine room of our new boat Nb. Yarwood. We will use a T-Mobile dongle, encased in a fetching length of 1.5" pipe disguised and painted and mounted adjacent to the pigeon box.
In the saloon we are going to locate the MiFi.

We've had ours for nearly 6 months now - it's brilliant!
