Sample door for Yarwood

Sample door, sapele and burr walnut

We have had a sample door made for the new boat, Nb. Yarwood.  Next week when we see the Stuart Harper of Barnowl Narrowboats, our boat fitter, we will decide whether we go with this or not.  We are in favour of bucking the trend for ash or oak but we will see what Stuart has to say.
This is the door furniture of choice, a solid brass, Victorian style, 25mm (1inch) knob!

What are you thinking of!

Be aware ! Ours are at such a height on the under worktop doors, that you find you keep catching your trouser pockets on them when passing, which can sometimes rip the pockets.

Anon, you have a post all to yourself.

Hi Alf
With Caxton we deliberately avoided using cabinet knobs on anything below gunwale height for the very reason you illustrate, getting snagged by the knob as you pass. However, if we go the root of using veneered doors we want to minimise the furniture on the doors and knobs rather than handles does that. We will be careful to site the knobs away from passing pockets though.

Nothing worse than a knob ruining your pocket! ;) Abby
