GUILT TRIP

Things are very solemn here this morning. Joe walked the dogs and then went directly to the Vet where he checked them in for their operations. Fletcher and Floyd are to be castrated. Anyone who has had to leave their beloved pet at a Vet's will know just how it feels when you walk out leaving them to the mercy of strangers when it is YOUR job to be protecting them.

Logically you know that you are doing the right thing. Logically you know that this is a routine operation and all will be well. Logically you know that they're as tough as old boots and will recover rapidly.

But what place logic when you feel like a total scumbag?

In recent times, we have been lucky having rescues that came "ready done". I think that it is a standard condition of re-homing from the Retired Greyhound Trust. Our first dog, Honey, was entire but looking back that was a mistake. You are doing the right thing, but I can sympathise with the guilty feeling.

Thanks Richard. We just want the boys to be more reliable when our lives move on to the canals. If we can operate a lock without Fletcher starting a punch-up or Floyd piddling on some poor unsuspecting new 'pack member'that will be good news for ALL of us - least that is how we are justifying it to ourselves!

PS. You can uncross your legs now..

You have my sympathy - the greyhounds are so skinny that it takes ages for them to recover from anaesthetics so every time they have to be knocked out (usually for stitching up with these two) I feel as if I've sent them to their doom!
Having been pursued by my neighbour's randy labrador who always mistook a friendly fuss for an invitation to have sex with my leg, I have to say that you're doing the right thing!
