We are currently moored up on the Trent and Mersey close to the junction with the Staffs and Worcs and though the T&M was completely frozen over the ice was thin compared to what I encountered on the Staffs and Worcs. Swans were clog dancing on the ice it was so thick. Any thoughts of moving down this canal at present can be firmly put to bed. And we did have thoughts about heading down here...ah well.
Above, looking back towards Tixall lock.
As I pointed the camera to capture the ice on the canal along comes a Virgin train to share the shot.
There were plenty sheep awaiting a delivery of fodder this frosty morning. The farmer had just arrived with ovine breakfasts as we passed.
Above, a wintry view from up on Cannock Chase.
We wandered back to Caxton through the Shugborough Estate which is closed until March unfortunately - having joined the National Trust it would have been quite good to make use of our membership by paying a visit while we are in these parts. Another time then.. Anyway, a lovely walk, in a lovely place on a lovely day!

Happy New Year to you all! The frosty countryside looks so beautiful, even it is a pain in proverbial...

Hello young Sue
The frozen countryside has its compensations and they not all visual - lack of mud on boots and DOGS is a wee blessing at this time of year!
