New Cupboards now completed!!

New steps to the stern deck
New tables
We returned to Caxton after a week away visiting family to find that Dave George had completed the changed to Caxton's galley and stern access.  Gone is the original staircase (last blog) now replaced with a conventional ladder.  The 43inches of boat length taken by the staircase has been replaced by full height cupboards providing us with lots of lovely STORAGE!!!

I bet you loved every minute of placing things in those cupboards! They look great. I think you have to be a boater to fully understand how precious storage space is and why we get so excited about it!

That looks fab - much better if we come to visit as Richard always bangs his head on the ceiling with the type of stair you had before!

Out of curiosity, how are the hounds coping with the steeper steps? Ours would be having nervous breakdowns but they are wussy geryhounds!

Hope you're all well.

Very smart Lesley, What an amazing amount of extra storage you have achieved!! And I guess the dinette gives more space having it as it is now, compared to pullman style? do you think it is better? Just trying to get some ideas as you obviously have the experience of knowing what works.... Best Wishes Doug

Hi Carol
We are very pleased. It has been a good decision to remove the staircase opt for increased storage.

You are so right, storage is key - a home for everything helps you to keep the boat tidy but that goes for any home doesn't it?

Hi Sue
The dogs haven't tackled the new steps yet but I think going up will be Ok, it is the going down that might prove more traumatic! We have fresh ground coffee on board now so when you are nearby...

Hi Doug
We would not have a dinette, pullman or L-shape on another boat. However, that is not to say that we wouldn't want a table as we do prefer to dine at a table. Our view is that a fixed dinette takes up too much space so we would opt for a table that drops down from the boat side when in use and goes away again when finished with. If you imagine a Boatmans 'table cupboard' made larger and hinged at the gunwale that is the type of thing that Caxton Mk2 will have.
