Towpath Etti Ketti

So there you are, ambling along a towpath watching the arse of your boat disappear around a bend, dogs bumbling along with you when you spot coming towards you a CYCLIST. The cyclist slows, the dogs are called to heel, you each move to opposite sides of the 'thoroughfare', you pass each other slowly, you smile, you greet, you wish each other a good day and your social intercourse is pleasantly accomplished; alternately....
The boat is disappearing... the cyclist is hurtling towards you at mach 2 and the dogs are on planet canine....
You start to gather the dogs, - the cyclist still hasn't slowed his pace - why should he, this is a 'Sustrans' RIGHT OF WAY - the gap between you and injury is shortening rapidly. You grab the dogs, leap into the hedgerow while the cyclist flashes past without even a grunt...

I think I might be developing my own version of towpath etiquette quite soon....

In those situations I do find that my towpath etiquette tends to descend into the Anglo-Saxon vernacular....
